Helps heal wounds faster, prevents the formation of new wounds and decreases pain / itching . This medicine can also reduce the duration of pain after wound healing.

How to use Valtrex:

Read the package leaflet from the pharmacy before you start taking Valtrex and each time you receive a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.Take Valtrex orally, with or without food, as directed by your doctor. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medicine to decrease the chance of side effects.

The dosage and duration of treatment are based on your type of infection , medical condition and response to treatment. For the treatment of varicella in children, the dosage is also based on weight.

This medicine works best when started at the first sign of an outbreak, as directed by your doctor. It may not work as well if you delay treatment. For chickenpox , start by taking Valtrex at the first symptom or as soon as possible after the rash appears. For cold sores or genital herpes , start by taking this medicine at the first sign or as soon as you feel tingling, itching or burning.

The Valtrex works best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take this medicine at evenly spaced intervals. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day.

Continue to take this medicine until the prescribed amount is completed. Do not change your dose, skip any doses or stop this medicine early without your doctor’s approval. Tell your doctor if the problem persists or worsens.

Side Effects of Valtrex:

Nausea , stomach pain, headache or dizziness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately. Remember that your doctor prescribed this medication because he or she judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney problems.
This medicine can rarely make you dizzy. Alcohol or marijuana can make you dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that needs attention until you can safely do it. Limit consumption of alcoholic beverages. Talk to your doctor if you are using marijuana.
Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, non-prescription drugs, and herbal products).
Do not take certain immunizations / vaccines (such as vaccines against the virus varicella) without the consent of your doctor.
Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of this medication, especially mental / mood changes (such as confusion, restlessness) and kidney problems (such as a change in the amount of urine).
The herpes can spread easily. Avoid close physical contact with others (such as kissing) during an outbreak until the herpes is fully healed. Try not to touch the sore. If you do, wash your hands afterwards.
The Valtrex does not prevent the spread of herpes . To decrease the chance of giving your partner genital herpes , do not have sexual contact during an outbreak or if you have symptoms. You can spread genital herpes , even if you do not have symptoms. Therefore, always use an effective barrier method (latex or polyurethane / denture condoms) throughout sexual activity. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

During pregnancy, this medicine should only be used when necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.This medication passes into breast milk, but it is unlikely to harm an infant. Ask your doctor before breast-feeding.

Interactions:

Drug interactions may change the way your medications work or increase the risk of serious side effects. This list may not describe all possible interactions. Overdose:

If someone has an overdose and presents with severe symptoms, such as fainting or difficulty breathing, call the emergency department. Symptoms of overdose may include: change in the amount of urine, extreme tiredness , mental / mood changes, loss of consciousness, seizures .

Grades:

Do not share this medicine with others. This medicine has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use later for another infection unless your doctor tells you to.

Dose Lost:

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, if it is near the time of the next dose, skip the dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage:

Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom.Keep all medicines out of the reach of children and pets.
