With this approach, people with trichotillomania first learn to identify when and where they feel like pulling hair . They also learn to relax and do something else that won’t hurt them as a way to help ease tension when they feel like pulling their hair.
It can be as simple as making a fist with the hand you would use to pull your hair . Therapy can also treat useless thoughts that could be added to the stress that triggers the behavior.
