The Health Benefits of Wasabi are diverse. In addition, Wasabi  has rich nutrients that prevent and combat disease . The Wasabi  is a root widely used as a natural seasoning East and grown in Japan and parts of China, has a slight greenish tint and more subtle flavor than horseradish.

Also known as Japanese-strong root, it is a plant native to Japan, grown mainly for use on its thick subterranean stem (rhizome), but which is often incorrectly called root .

There are two traditional systems of cultivating this plant . The most commonly used in Japan is cultivation in a semi-aquatic environment, with a smooth and continuous flow of  cold water . In Japan it is common to plant rock beds made along water courses  or in tanks.

Each bed is composed of a thick layer of small rocks over which there is a layer of gravel, which in turn is covered with a layer of a few inches of sand.

The other system is the cultivation on sites of moist soil, rich in organic matter, usually under large trees that provide shade and help keep the environment moist. In this system the soil should hold water well , remaining constantly moist, but should not be soaked or flooded.

It grows well in  running water , with good oxygen concentration, not in the soil flooded with  stagnant water . Another alternative is cultivation in hydroponic systems. The pH of the water and soil must be between 6 and 7, regardless of the cultivation system employed.

The  Wasabi or Japanese fortified root is usually grown from shoots or seeds. It is also possible to use pieces of rhizomes, but this is less common.

The method of seed propagation is not the most appropriate when one expects to harvest rhizomes, because seedlings often do not produce good rhizomes. When the objective is the commercial harvesting of rhizomes, planting should be done using only shoots of plants that produce rhizomes of excellent quality.

When grated, its rhizome has a very spicy taste, similar to that of the hard root , but not identical. Its leaves can also be consumed and have a less spicy taste than the rhizome.

This root  imparts flavor complexity, while the  strong root gives more spice. The paste of this root  is spicy, but much softer than the hard root , and slightly fibrous. And the price is high: even in Japan, few restaurants offer this root  in natura.
