The Cancer stomach or stomach cancer is not a common disease. In addition,  stomach cancer is a malignant neoplasm of the stomach mucosa , also called gastric carcinoma.

Simply put, a neoplasm is a cellular alteration that leads to exaggerated cell growth, in which cells partially or totally lose their ability to distinguish themselves.

This happens in the mucosa, tissue that covers the inside of the organs that have contact with the outside of the body, in this case the stomach mucosa . Gastric carcinoma is responsible for over 90% of stomach cancer cases .

In addition to gastric carcinoma there is also cancer of the stomach lymphatic tissues  (less than 4% of cancers), carcinoid tumors (less than 3%) and muscle mother cell tumor (less than 2%).

Although these three types of cancer also appear in the stomach, they are not commonly referred to as Stomach Cancer .

What is stomach cancer:

Benign tumors in the stomach and duodenum are uncommon and constitute only 5-10% of all stomach cancers and 10-20% of all duodenal tumors .

Although this mass is benign, in certain cases it can become malignant.

Most cases occur in the elderly and in people over 55 years.

If Stomach Cancer is diagnosed at an early stage, there is a good chance of cure.

Generally, if the cancer is in the third or fourth stage (has grown and spread) treatment is less likely to resolve the cancer .

However, treatment may slow the progress of cancer.

Stomach cancer incidence and mortality have decreased over the past 50 years by about 1% per year.

Causes of Stomach Cancer:

It is not known exactly what causes stomach cancer , but it is known that there is a strong correlation between H. pilory infection, a diet rich in salt and canned and smoked foods and the development of  gastric cancer .

Stomach cancer usually begins when an error occurs in the cell’s DNA. This mutation causes the cell to grow and multiply rapidly. The accumulated cancer cells form what we call a tumor, which can invade other parts of the body as well, and can spread throughout the body.

Stomach Cancer Symptoms:

The stomach cancer usually does not become symptomatic until there is extensive disease. Early symptoms are nonspecific. Weight loss, nausea, vomiting, anorexia and fatigue are the main manifestations.

The location and type of tumor determine the semiologic picture. Dysphagia is associated with proximal tumors while  distal tumors condition obstruction and food intolerance. Patients with plastic linitis lesions have early satiety due to loss of gastric distensibility.

Typical symptoms in cases of plastic linitis include nausea and vomiting (61%), weight loss (58%), dysphagia (46%) and abdominal pain (38%). Gastric perforation, although rare, may be the form of presentation in 1 to 4% of cases. Approximately 2% of upper gastrointestinal bleeding is the responsibility of Stomach Cancer .

Paraneoplastic syndromes are rare: cutaneous manifestations (acanthosis nigricans, diffuse seborrheic keratosis or Leser-Trelat sign) and haematological manifestations (Trouseau’s syndrome, microangiopathic hemolytic anemia). Physical examination is irrelevant until advanced stages.

Classical physical findings represent incurable metastatic disease: Virchow’s left supraclavicular adenopathy, Sister Maria Joseph’s periumbilical nodule, Blumer’s shelf (accessible to the rectal touch), and Krukenberg’s tumor (ovary metastasis).

Signs of terminal disease include hepatosplenomegaly, jaundice, ascites, hematemesis, melena, cachexia. Late manifestations include perforation, bleeding, gastric fistula and obstruction.

Treatment For Stomach Cancer:

Stomach cancer treatment is treated in the same way as other cancers , ie with radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and in some cases surgery to remove part  or all of the stomach depending on the severity and depends on the size, location and general condition of the person.

The Stomach cancer is curable, but is more likely to cure when it is still diagnosed early in the disease and is properly treated. Nevertheless, in some cases there is always the possibility of metastasis to the liver, pancreas and other nearby body regions.

To avoid aggravation of stomach cancer , a healthy lifestyle should be adopted, opting for a vegetable-rich diet, eating fruit at every meal, not smoking, not over-drinking and minimizing food consumption. pickled and sausages such as sausages, ham, salted and bacon.
