Naboth Cysts – What, Causes, Symptoms and Treatments You Should Know. In addition, Naboth Cysts are mucus-filled cysts that look like small lumps on the surface of the cervix. They are usually 2mm to 10mm in diameter, and they contain mucus that varies in color from pale yellow to amber.

In most cases, Naboth Cysts occur when new tissue recovers on the cervix after delivery. This new tissue blocks the openings of the nabantian glands of the cervix , trapping their mucous secretion in small pockets under the skin .

The cysts of Naboth is a normal finding in the cervix of women who have had children. They are also seen in menopausal women whose cervical skin has shrunk with age.

Less frequently, Nabotian cysts are related to chronic cervicitis, a long-term cervical infection .

Causes of Naboth Cysts:

The cysts Nabothian form when mucus producing glands in their cervical cells are coated with the skin and become clogged.

Skin cells cover the glands, which causes mucus to accumulate. This causes a cyst to form on the cervix that looks like a small white lump.

Childbirth and physical trauma to the cervix can cause Naboth cysts in some women. During childbirth, excess skin cells can grow in the mucosa and disrupt mucus, causing cysts to form.

Naboth Cyst Symptoms:

The large size Nabothian cyst causes rectal or anal symptoms due to compression of the rectal region as Naboth cysts grow posteriorly. The symptoms included are pelvic congestion and dragging sensation.

During the physical examination of the pelvic, doctors often noticed a few smooth-colored pale yellow bumps.

Treatment For Naboth Cysts:

As they are asymptomatic, treatment is usually not required. But if the cyst is more than 1 cm, removal is necessary to prevent the body from causing discomfort and ill effects. There are three methods to remove the cyst :

Excision: The blade or scalpel may be conducted on excessive cyst growth . It involves the removal of the cyst and its surrounding tissues using endoscope.

Electrocautery: Electrocautry ablation involves the use of high frequency electrical currents to remove abnormal mass from the cervical region and also drain fluid. Doctors mostly prefer this surgical treatment because it has minimal blood loss .

Cryotherapy: The cyst is frozen with the help of liquid nitrogen to shrink and destroy it. It is less invasive than ablation and excision.
