What is Gentian:

The Gentian is a medicinal plant, also known as Gencianela, Gengiba, or Unciana Junciana, widely used in the treatment of digestive problems.

Its scientific name is Gentiana lutea and can be purchased at health food stores and some pharmacies handling .

Properties:

The properties of this plant include its antidiabetic, antiemetic, antiinflammatory, antimicrobial, digestive, laxative, tonic and deworming action.

What it is for:

This plant is used to help treat allergies, amenorrhea, anemia , diarrhea, rheumatic pain, fever , heartburn , gallstones, diabetes, anorexia, arthritis, general weakness, gastritis, gout, jaundice, nausea, cold, intestinal worms and vomiting.

Mode of use:

The used parts of this plant are its leaves and roots to make tea, which should be taken before meals.

Tea: Add 1 tsp of gentian root in a cup of boiling water and let stand for 5 minutes. Strain and drink 2 to 3 times a day.

Side effects:

Side effects of this plant include headache and vomiting when consumed in excess.

Contraindications:

This plant is contraindicated in pregnancy and for hypertensive patients, predisposed to headaches or stomach ulcers.
