Andropause – What, Causes, Symptoms and Treatments You Should Know. Also, Andropause , also known as male menopause, lowers your sex drive and makes you feel weak and moody.
The Department of Geriatric Medicine and Urology at New York General Hospital shares its causes and symptoms.
Testosterone levels vary in older men being a major contributing factor. Therefore, older men will naturally have lower testosterone than younger men.
When a man reaches the age of 30, his testosterone levels gradually decrease, about 1% per year, and up to 50% by the time he generates 70. These changes can bring symptoms that may go unnoticed for years.
Causes of Andropause:
Decreased testosterone is an important factor in men suspected of having andropause. However, as men get older, not only does the body begin to make less testosterone , but also levels of another hormone called sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), which pulls usable testosterone from the blood , begins to rise.
SHBG binds some of the available testosterone circulating in the blood . The testosterone that is not bound to SHBG hormone is called testosterone bio available, which means it is available for use by the body .
